Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) status was launched by the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) in April 2004; since then over 20,000 people have gained the status.
HLTA is a professional development opportunity for teaching assistants, leading to the achievement of a nationally recognised standard.
To achieve HLTA status, candidates have to meet 31 standards. The standards are based upon the QTS (qualified teacher status) standards, although there is a clear emphasis that HLTA tasks should always be under the direction and supervision of a qualified teacher.
mPowerNet, in partnership with local authorities, provides fully-funded training that takes place at a range of local venues across London, and Yorkshire & Humber.
