The courses consist of five face-to-face training days spread over the period September to December 2010, plus online engagement, group work and visits to other settings. Who is the course for? This high quality, graduate level leadership and management training programme has been developed to equip people whose role requires them to think strategically across the play workforce to lead and manage in the context of integrated children's services.
This course will help playwork leaders and managers to develop confidence and strategic thinking skills by linking practical experience to leadership and management theory. The course is aimed at those working in a management or leadership role, with responsibility for developing playwork.
As a participant in this training, you can benefit from:
- A free graduate level and high quality training programme
- Opportunities to further your leadership and management skills and apply them in the context of reflective learning
- A focus on leadership and management for playwork settings in the context of integrated children’s services

Eligibility: Participants must be in a paid role working in any of the maintained, private, voluntary or independent sectors. The course will be targeted at a graduate level, although this does not necessarily mean that you must have a degree to apply, but you should be able to demonstrate you can benefit from this course.
You will need support from your manager to allow you access to the course and some time to carry out activities in the workplace.
What is it about? This course enables you to explore creative and flexible approaches in the management of playwork services. You build your confidence as an advocate for play values that maintain a focus on outcomes for children, young people, parents and carers.
This is achieved by developing your management and leadership skills, and your ability to use reflective practice for yourself and those you work with.
How much time will be needed? Beginning September 2010 you will join your online community and take part in induction activities; then your face-to-face sessions will take place at your chosen venue.
You will need to commit approximately 10 days including time to attend all five face-to-face sessions and engage in online discussions. While the workload will not be onerous, you will need to undertake some activities, including group work reading, reflective activities and visits to other settings in your own time.
