Early Years Information Sessions

The following Early Years information sessions are available to organisations for group bookings. They can be run on university premises or as local deliveries convenient to the organisation and its staff, say as part of an INSET day or as a twilight session.

Inclusion in the Early Years

Delegates will learn how to make it quicker and easier to get the right support for children and families with SEND needs, and to build their confidence to work more effectively with parents, local authorities and external professionals to secure the best support available.

This training will cover:

  • SEN law and specific processes for supporting children in the Early Years
  • Legislation and the Code of Practice
  • Definitions, roles and responsibilities
  • Challenge the barriers to the right support
  • The Graduated Response
  • The legal process of statutory assessment- timescales and people involved
  • Annual Reviews and appeals
  • Overview of the proposed changes to SEN law

 

Parental Partnerships

Delegates will consider the meaning of ‘partnership’ with parents within the revised EYFS and devise strategies to build on and support young children’s learning.

This training will cover:

  • The overarching principles of the EYFS and how they shape practice when working with families
  • How to enable trusting reciprocal partnerships to grow
  • Good practice ideas to help devise ways to work positively with parents
  • Action planning to nurture positive relationships with parents

 

EYFS Planning for Babies

Delegates will be introduced to some practical ways in which to meet the care and development needs of babies at the same time, while also looking at why these two elements are so important and inseparable.

This training will cover:

  • The issues and challenges faced
  • Care verses learning
  • Babies and the EYFS
  • Observations and planning
  • Practical activities and resources

 

Strategies for Nurturing Writing and Maths in an Early Years Context

Delegates will be introduced to some practical ways in which to develop strategies for nurturing Writing and Maths in an Early Years context.

This training will cover:

  • Raising awareness of writing in the EY from a child’s perspective
  • Raising awareness of how writing in the EY appeals to girls and boys
  • Raising awareness of maths in an EY context
  • Opportunities to share good practice ideas

 

Science in the Early Years

Delegates will be introduced to some practical ways in which to develop strategies for nurturing Science in an Early Years context.

This training will cover:

  • Raising awareness of science in the EY from a child’s perspective
  • Considering the early learning goals in the context of science
  • Raising awareness of how science in the EY appeals to girls and boys
  • Opportunities to share good practice ideas
